Wow—the 2014 Girl Scout Convention was amazing! Throughout convention—during the National Council Session, the Conversations of Consequence, the Girl Scout University sessions, the activities in the Hall of Experiences, the theme dinners, and other fun social events—over 6,000 of us united around the brightest stars we have—the girls our Movement serves. We kicked off convention with a flag ceremony led by our littlest leaders, Daisies, as we commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Daisy program. And four days later we ended by honoring our ten National Young Women of Distinction. These exemplary Gold Award recipients inspired attendees with stories of how they are changing our world for the better.
In between, there was the National Council Session, our Democratic Process in action, which engaged the most girl delegates ever. Along with the adult delegates, they conducted the business of our Movement—sharing their important perspectives on each proposal and on the Outdoor discussion, and helping to elect our new national board, including Kathy Hopinkah Hannan as national president. The girls also joined hundreds of other Girl Scouts from around the globe for the Girl Scout Leadership Institute, during which they worked together to develop their leadership skills, learn from experts and each other, have fun, and start Take Action projects on issues of importance to them.
